What are ATCs? Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) are individual fine art miniatures which are traded between artists. They measure 2.5" x 3.5", the same as commercial trading cards. Artists trade with other artists at live sessions or over the internet. Artists can also join themed swaps with other artist participants and receive a set number of cards in return. Artists generally sign and date the back, and may also include a title and contact information on each of their cards. The Artist Trading Card trend began in Switzerland in 1997 and has been popularized via the internet.

Our juried trading group is comprised of:
  • Illustrators
  • Fine Artists
  • Mixed Media Artists
  • Graphic Designers
  • Talented Art Hobbyists
All types of artists are welcome, as long as you can draw and paint! Anyone who enjoys illustrative style art is encouraged to submit their art and join us.

Art by Tabitha Ladin Name: Tabitha Ladin (Tablynn)

About you and your art? I have been creating art since I was a baby. I still have many amusing pictures I drew when I was four or five years old. Most of my life art was just a hobby but after I decided engineering was not for me I decided to make a career out of what I loved to do. After completing school for Advertising Art and Computer Graphic Design, I worked as a professional colorist at a comic book company and then as a graphic designer. After I was "downsized" I decided to concentrate on motherhood and I really got away from creating anything for a few years. I discovered ATCs through my mother and I find that it is the only thing I do for myself anymore. It is a mini escape to be able to go create something, especially if it makes someone else happy. I would love to one day get back into bigger projects when my kids are older.

Fave artists & inspirations? I really can't name a favorite artist. I see so many neat things in so many artists. Each comes at subjects with their own unique take and that is what I find fascinating. The more art I am exposed to, the more I find I like. Some of my first influences as a child were the classic masters like Da Vinci and Van Gogh and Michaelangelo (did I spell that right?). As a teenager I was drawn towards fantasy type art like Boris Valejo and Frank Frazetta and HR Gieger (love his meticulous details). Now all bets are off. There really is no particular artist or category. I just know it when I see it.

Fave mediums? Weeelll, I'd have to say colored pencils! and I love that micron pen. My time in the comic book industry wore off a bit and I still like to have an ink line around a lot of my colored pencil work. I also like watercolors although its hard to work with watercolors when you know you may have to jump up at any moment and clean up spilled milk or break up a fight. Colored pencils give me all sorts of color and control but I can be flexible with when I put them down.

What themes do you collect? I gravitate towards nature themes. Trees, flowers, animals. Fantasy is also a big one and sci-fi themes too. Gosh the list is pretty long. I'd like to get more into figures but I have to figure out how to draw them myself first!

Fave themes to create? Animals, and fantasy themes. Although some of my favorite cards that I've created have been things I would never have picked to draw myself for PATS. Sometimes a challenge works out.

Any tips or tricks? Try and stretch and learn new things. Even if it is trying different subject matter than you would normally do. New angles or cropping or a different color palette. You may be surprised at how it comes out and I apply what I learn to improving the subjects I love to do.
